About

Pioneer Trail Middle School has a long history of excellence in choral music. The choral program has flourished over the years under the direction of a number of experienced and well-respected choral educators, including Mrs. Jan Holthus, Ms. Elise Peterson, and Mr. Jason Sickel. PTMS singers continue to sing in choirs throughout high school and college, and enjoy singing for a lifetime.

The Pioneer Trail choir program focuses on nurturing young choral musicians, preparing them for a lifetime of music making as skilled, caring individuals. Singers at Pioneer Trail prepare a wide variety of excellent choral literature for concerts, learn fundamental music listening and reading skills, engage in structured sight reading, increase their understanding of their unique voice, and learn fundamentals of good singing technique. Pioneer Trail singers also have opportunities to audition for advanced ensembles, audition for district and state honor choirs, perform in adjudicated festivals, participate in small chamber ensembles, and other musically enriching opportunities.

Mr. Eric Newlin, Director of Choirs
